It’s the film we’ve all been waiting for… Star Wars: The Force Awakens is finally released on December 17th. Here at Zoek HQ we can hardly contain our excitement, so while we eagerly wait to find out will become of Luke, Leia, Han and Chewie, we look at how you can use The Jedi Code in your hunt for a new job and become the Jedi Master of job searching!
There is no emotion, there is peace.
Searching for a new job can be stressful and at times tiring but as The Code teaches us; remain peaceful and keep a positive mind. Don’t rush into a new job because of pressure. Anakin lets his emotions get the better of him and eventually he rushes into the dark side, ultimately dooming the galaxy. Granted, if you rush into a job you’re (hopefully) not going to build a Death Star and destroy Alderaan - but you may look back in a few months’ time and realise the rush was perhaps a mistake.
There is no ignorance, there is knowledge.
As they say knowledge is power, know your sector. Boba Fett didn’t become the most feared bounty hunter without knowing how to do it, likewise if you’re applying for a job and offered an interview be prepared for industry questions, and know your answers. Research the company you are interviewing for beforehand, do a Google search and look them up on LinkedIn – this way you can ensure you know the company inside out.
There is no passion, there is serenity.
Having passion for a job is good don’t let The Code deceive you but as the first code teaches us remain calm, don’t let your job search overwhelm you and keep a positive attitude, don’t give into the dark side of the Force.
There is no chaos, there is harmony.
Job searching can feel hectic at times; knowing where to start on your hunt, which job boards and apps to use, how to write the perfect CV – the list goes on. Organising this ‘chaos’ can help you be more productive in your job search and will make you feel under control. A good tip is to write a list to become more strategic and maybe even create your own ‘Jedi Council’ with friends and family to give you advice and guidance.
There is no death, there is the Force.
Okay so this may seem a little extreme but think about it in terms of being disheartened. You might not get the first job you apply for, or even the second - but good things will happen and a little bit of self-belief can go a long way. Star Wars fans call it the Force, others may call it fate but as Jedi Master Yoda says “Do or do not. There is no try”.
You have been taught well young Padawan and with patience you will soon become a Job Search Master. May the Force be with you.
